MEET THE GRASSROOTS TEAM: IESHA

Meet Iesha Nixon our Allied Health Practitioner and Social Worker who supports our participants in making important positive changes to their lives.

“I am a Queer, Blak, and proud woman with strong family lineage and kinship connections within the Aboriginal, Torres Strait, and South Sea Islander communities.

I am forever grateful to have been learning, loving, and living on Gubbi Gubbi/Kabi Kabi country for the last 10 years with my 3 jarjum, Soul Rebel, Rhythm Aretha and Justice Reign.

I have had the honour and privilege of volunteering, studying and working throughout the community development, education, employment and social justice fields walking alongside and connecting with First Nations people on Latje Latje, Gooreng Gooreng, Kaurna, Barkindji, Barngarla and Gubbi Gubbi country for over 25 years.

I am passionately committed to supporting and advocating for First Nations people's social, economic, political, cultural, and environmental rights to self-determination and equitable access and participation in society.

I stand strong in my power against all forms of racism, am strongly influenced by hip hop culture and abolition feminism and am deeply inspired by staunch women such as my Mama Var Togo, Mama Lorc Jackson, Professor Chelsea Watego, Debbie Kilroy, Angela Davis and bell hooks.”
